New Junior Black Belts

Brisbane’s southern suburbs can now boast three new junior Tae Kwon Do Black Belts.

The three boys, Oliver Anzolin, 10, from Fairfield, Tristan Jong, 12, from Mt Gravatt, and James Woods, 12, from Annerley, are the first junior students to receive their Black Belts from Tan’s Tae Kwon Do in Coorparoo.

Instructor Master Michael Tan, who has over 39 years’ experience in the sport, said the students had trained 2 to 3 times per week with him for the past five years.

“To achieve the exacting standards of a Black Belt at such a young age is a wonderful achievement,” Master Tan said.

All three students were required to perform advanced strikes, blocks and kicks, as well as memorizing several formal Tae Kwon Do patterns.  They were also expected to know all of those elements in the Korean language.

Master Tan and his wife Claudia said the club was very proud of Oliver, Tristan and James.

“A Black Belt is testament to the students’ hard work and dedication.  It also shows they are true examples of the five tenets of Tae Kwon Do which are Self Control, Perseverance, Integrity, Courtesy and Indomitable Spirit,” Master Tan said.

Tan’s Tae Kwon Do is located at 72 Cambridge Street, Coorparoo and is open 6 days per week for junior and adult classes.
